The 31st Meeting of the Norwegian Scotch Malt Whisky Society was held at Angel's Share's abode on August 31, 2001.

The meeting was carried out in the traditional way of the whisky society with no drama. Heavy snacks consisting of fenalår, multiple salted and smoked salamis, ham and potato salad with vegs on the side was served. Due to a relative high cost on the whisky of the night the food side was slightly reduced. No non-alcoholic beverages were served except on order. No order was noted during the evening. An improvised "kåseri" on the "makings of whisky in the ancient old Scottish language of German" was performed (see below). To the host's surprise the exact same speech had been performed previously in English. The host choose to ignore this. He was so happy to be able to speak in German. During the meeting several whiskies were sampled, but scores were only recorded for the ones listed below.

The evening was rounded of in a pleasant way with as usual a slightly confused and angry Tary and a tobacco poisoned Laird.

"Ein Hogshead ("Schweinskopf') wird nach 10 bis 12 Jahren rund 300 Flaschen Whisky mit euler Stärke von 40% vol. hergeben, em butt 500, em barrel 200. Die Unterschiede der Eichenfässer untereinander machen es dem Brenner unmOglich, seine einmalige Schopfung, zumindest absichtlich, genau zu wiederholen.

Im Allgemeinen war der vor 1900 getrunkene Whisky noch rechtjung; nur der Landadel konnte es sich leisten, seinem Whisky genugend Zeit zurn Reifen zu geben. Das Fass konnte neu sein oder einst Wein, Buffer, Rum oder sogar Heringe enthalten haben - eben alles, was man in einern Fass gut unterbringen konnte. Bis hin zu dieser Zeit war die Herkunft des Fasses nicht besonders wichtig. Bis in die SOer Jahre des letzten Jahrhunderts wurde Whisky nur in Fassem verkauft und vom Win oder Handler nach Bedarf abgefüilt. 1916 legte die britische Regierung das Mindestalter fur Whisky auf drei Jahre fest. Die Destillerien waren nun gezwungen, Fässer zu finden, in denen der Whisky reifen könnte."
