Whisky of the Night

The Macallan

1) It was noted by the GM that two members, namely Mr. Lars Haldorsen and Mr. Marc Berntssen, were not suitably dressed as
decreed in paragraph 9.1 (Articles of Association), where members are required to wear "a light coloured shirt with bow tie and
cufflinks".
2) As prescribed in paragraph 5.4 (Articles of Association), Mr. Andreas Jaunsen held a speech entitled "Explore the Singularity of
Single Malts, Discover a World of Rugged Individuality" (minuted). The aim of the speech was to instil the proper ambience and
create an appropriate atmosphere for the meeting. The speech was favourably received by the members.
3) The Whisky of the Night was "The Macallan", a Whisky that comes highly recommended by the experts. It was noted as having a
full-rounded body, but not as distinct as e.g. "Highland Park", but with more individuality than e.g. "Isle of Jura".
4) A few members brought with them various spirits for consumption and/or testing: the GM brought a bottle of Cognac, Mr.
Augestad brought a dash of "The Balvenie" and Mr. Berntssen brought a bottle of what could best be described as a cheap,
blended Whisky.
5) The GM suggested that members should try their skills at tasting and identifying whiskies blindfolded. This was applauded as a
fitting test of the skills acquired so far through *The Society* (and also from a long life of Whisky tasting).

Four different spirits (listed below) were poured into four identical glasses. Stickers were attached to each glass in order to
identify the contents in the glass. The member conducting the tasting was blindfolded, and was given the opportunity to rinse
his/her mouth with water during the tasting.

Two members were able to identify all whiskies and the Cognac, two members managed to identify one Whisky and the Cognac,
one member managed one Whisky, another member managed the Cognac, while the last member failed to identify anything at
all. The members commented how challenging it had been to identify the blended Whisky. The final results are listed below.
6) The GM inquired as to whether Mr. Jaunsen would consider taking over the function of secretary, something Mr. Jaunsen readily
agreed to do. The minutes may, however, be incomplete as the GM took the *Official N.S.M.W.S.* book with her, and the
Secretary must therefore rely on his memory in order to complete the minutes.
7) The next meeting will be held at the abode of Mr. Bjarne Augestad on Friday 29 January 1999 at 7 PM. Mr. Augestad will take
the opportunity to hold his acceptance speech at this meeting.
